Barbara has a stroke but with the help of her therapist and BalanceWear, she was able to continue working.
How long ago was your stroke?
In June of 2018 I noticed a severe headache. My doctor sent me for a CAT scan which revealed a bleed in the cerebellar area. I ended up having surgery for an atrial venous malformation (AVM) the end of July 2018.
I went in walking and then I didn’t have balance after surgery and could not walk. I went to rehabilitation and started with a walker. After I returned home, I had physical therapy from Home health and used a cane. I still use a cane.
How did you hear about BalanceWear?
I heard about BalanceWear from Nick, a physical therapists at Southshore Neurological Associates in Long Island.
Nick let me use a BalanceWear at their office. It helped me stand up and be more balanced on my feet. So I decided to get one. Now in physical therapy I work on not using my cane while using the vest.
How does BalanceWear help you?
I use BalanceWear at work as I am on my feet all day long. It helps me continue to work. I put in around 50 hours per week at grocery food store and a fast food restaurant.
What key features of the BalanceWear Vest had the biggest impact?
BalanceWear gives me 30-40% more balance. It seems like it is helping my muscles learn to know where they need to be.
Anything else you would like to tell me about the vest?
After a while even with the vest I will begin to veer. When that happens, Nick readjusts the weights and then it is better again.
Thank you Barbara.
