A letter from a BalanceWear® user provides this description of better balance and a resumption of many normal everyday activities:
I don’t know if you remember me, this is Cindy from Virginia. I wanted to touch base with you since receiving my BalanceWear® vest on December 15, 2015.
I was diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting MS in 1994 and my first symptom was dizziness and vertigo. The dizziness has never completely disappeared over the last 21 years, however, I’ve never let this disease stop me from living a normal life. I continued to work as a registered nurse in a critical care unit for 17 years and stayed as active as possible. As my disease progressed, I perfected a technique that I call “wall-walking.” Anyone who has ever had balance problems knows this technique well.
In 2009, my physician told me that I would no longer be able to work and was I forced to take disability. Using a cane and a walker, I was determined to maintain an active lifestyle by changing my activities and became an avid swimmer and taught Deep Water Workouts at my local YMCA.
In September of 2015, I developed a new lesion on my Thoracic spine that caused a devastating relapse that severely affected my mobility and left me pretty much home bound. I was devastated but still not ready to give up completely. I knew there had to be something out there that could help me besides all of the toxic IV steroids and other medications that I was pouring into my body. Over the years, the steroids had left me with osteoporosis, and the Valium 3x a day did not (and never did) work.
My search for alternative therapy led me to you! Until you have walked a mile in someone else’s shoes you cannot understand what it is like to walk around dizzy, falling down, unbalanced, and helpless. It is just amazing at how many activities you take for granted when you can no longer do them.
This amazing vest has changed my life in so many ways. I can now walk without a cane or walker, stand for longer periods of time to cook, put on my makeup at the bathroom mirror, walk my dog, grocery shop without using the Mart Kart, go up and down stairs with more confidence, and sit without pain.
My friends are amazed at the progress they have seen in me. I will continue to build the strength in my legs with the help of physical therapy and I will return to the pool soon!
I want to thank you for this amazing device and for all the help you gave me in locating a facility and professional near me that could help me with the assessment and fitting process. I am anxious to let others know about this and to help educate physicians on the need to consider alternative therapy to deal with neurological diseases like MS.
Again, thank you for your help. I look forward to improved strength and mobility using my new amazing vest!
